So I thought I would start out My new blog with a few tips for hiring home inspectors and what things to look for in a home inspector.

Make sure when hiring a home inspector that they have proper insurance. They should have error and omissions and general liability insurance.
Ask for references
Talk to your real estate agent for a list of inspectors in your area.
He or She should be a member of InterNACHI or CAPHI
They should be able to answer your questions clearly without talking"Over your Head"
What kind of expeirance do they have?
What other credentials do they have? I.E: Engineer, Carpenter Etc.
How long will the inspection take? It should take 2.5 to 4 hours to complete the inspection.
The last question that you should ask is " What do you charge". Although this is important, if all you really want to know is the price then you really are not looking for a good inspector but a cheap one. My mother always told me " you get what you pay for".
Most inspections are between 350 and 500 depending on area you live in and what is involved.

Make a list of questions before you call, a good inspector will take the time to answer them.
